Missy Elliott has left fans doing a double take after posting a rare picture of her mother, Patricia Elliott.

The pioneering rapper was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame last week, marking the first time her mother has ever seen her perform live.

Elliott mentioned this “fun fact” on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Sunday (November 5), writing: “My mom never seen me perform live be4 because I said Lord she gonna gag hearing some of these songs live.

“But I couldn’t have her miss my induction in the Rock & Roll hall of fame I said momma close ya ears when I say sumn crazy [crying face emojis] This her at @rockhall.”

The “Get Ur Freak On” rapper also posted a picture of her mother at the ceremony, leading many fans to think that they are in fact siblings of a similar age. One fan hilariously commented: “Mom?! She looks like your sister!! She’s a beautiful lady.”

This view was echoed by others, with one saying: “I’m still gobsmacked that this woman is your mother and not like, your sister or a cousin of the same age… Whew.”

Another fan added: “Your mom looks like an R&B legend lol [heart emoji] god bless her for giving us you.”

Missy Elliott also mentioned her mom during her Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction speech, saying: “I have to thank my mother who is here. My mother has never seen me perform in my whole entire career.

“But lemme tell you, wait, it’s not my mother’s fault. I most definitely didn’t wanna be saying she’s a bitch, no minute man, don’t fail me now, all of these records.

“I never wanted my mother to come to a show to hear me curse, ’cause you know, she from the church. But this night is so important and I wouldn’t have it no other way. Mommy, I thank you for allowing me to write on your walls songs.”

The Virginia native also thanked a number of Hip Hop luminaries in her speech, including close collaborator Timbaland and inspirations such as Queen Latifah, MC Lyte and Roxanne Shante.

Missy Elliott became the first female rapper to enter the Hall of Fame and was inducted alongside the likes of DJ Kool Herc, Kate Bush, Sheryl Crow, George Michael, Willie Nelson, Rage Against the Machine and The Spinners.
